The paper

One hundred and sixty pages of Fabriano Tiepolo, a hundred-and-thirty-gram mould-made sheet that takes fountain-pen ink without bleeding and pencil without ghosting. A5, lay-flat at every opening — this is the bench test I run on every single book before it leaves the shop.

The binding

Long-stitch through a veg-tan cover, exposed at the spine. The stitch is decorative only on the outside; structurally it is carrying the weight of the text block. Waxed linen thread, natural, which darkens with handling until it matches the leather.

What it is for

Whatever you would otherwise lose. I made the first Daybook for a friend who kept losing recipes on the backs of envelopes. She filled it in eleven months. The second one she paid for.

I have filled two of these and ordered a third. The paper is the thing — fountain pen ink sits on top and dries dark without feathering, and the book opens flat even on the first page, which I have never had with any other journal.
